On June 29, the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Sports released the “2022 Shanghai National Fitness Development Report”. The report shows that in 2022, Shanghai will accelerate the construction of a higher-level national fitness public service system. The proportion of Shanghai citizens who regularly participate in physical exercise will continue to increase.
In order to further clarify the status and problems of national fitness development in the region, the Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau formulated the “Shanghai National Fitness Development Index Evaluation Method (2021-2025)” (referred to as “600 Index”). The new cycle Shanghai National Fitness Development 600 Index is composed of six individual indexes of “fitness facilities”, “fitness organizations”, “fitness activities”, “fitness guidance”, “physical health” and “citizen participation”, including 6 first-level indicators, 16 There are two second-level indicators and 53 third-level indicators, each of which is 100 points for each first-level indicator, totaling 600 points. The “2022 Shanghai National Fitness Development Report” shows that the Shanghai National Fitness 600 Index has a total score of 457.2, with the “Physical Health” index being the highest and the “Fitness Facilities” index being the lowest. Among them, 56.7 are fitness facilities, 76.1 are fitness organizations, 81.5 are fitness activities, 69.8 are fitness guidance, 90.2 are physical health, and 82.9 are citizens participating.
In terms of fitness facilities, in 2022, Shanghai will continue to promote the five-year action plan for the construction of fitness facilities to make up for shortcomings, and add 1.4783 million square meters of sports venues. A total of 23.34 million yuan of sports consumption coupons were distributed throughout the year, and more than 700 designated venues were supported to open discounts, and more than 2 million citizens received coupons. By the end of 2022, the area of sports venues per capita in Shanghai will reach 2.51㎡, an increase of 0.07㎡ from the 2.44㎡ per capita in 2021.
In terms of fitness organizations, as of the end of 2022, Shanghai has a total of 1,324 sports social organizations registered with the civil affairs department. There are 72,922 sports and fitness teams, and there are 30.0 sports and fitness organizations per 10,000 people. There are a total of 160 community sports clubs in Shanghai, covering 74.4% of the streets and towns.
In terms of fitness activities, in 2022, Shanghai’s sports departments at all levels will take the lead in organizing 15,013 events of various levels and types, with 9.01 million participants. This year, the Shanghai Urban Amateur League held a total of 6,320 events, with a total of 8.3 million participants.
In terms of fitness guidance, by the end of 2022, there will be a total of 62,086 registered social sports instructors in Shanghai, accounting for 2.5‰ of the permanent resident population. In 2022, a total of 7,162 sessions of city-level community sports delivery courses will be completed; 10,074 district-level community sports delivery sessions will be completed.
In terms of physical health, by the end of 2022, Shanghai has established 16 district-level physical fitness monitoring and guidance centers, achieving full coverage of district-level physical fitness monitoring and guidance centers.
In terms of citizen participation, a third-party survey shows that citizens have a relatively high satisfaction rate of 82.5 points for the national fitness public service. Citizen fitness literacy score is 59.3 points. It is worth mentioning that the proportion of people who regularly participate in physical exercise in Shanghai will reach 50.1% in 2022, an increase of 1.1 percentage points from 2021 (49.0%).
